Wisconsin’s Act 31 requires Native American history and issues of Wisconsin tribal sovereignty to be taught in elementary, middle, and high school. Despite the law, schools fail miserably at complying with this important rule. It is a missed opportunity.

Several courses here at Glacial Trails have a unique Wisconsin Native American focus: Wisconsin Indian Nations, Tribal Conservation, and Wisconsin Geography. Regardless of whether schools comply with Act 31 or offer culturally relevant classes, it is important for students to learn about the region’s ancestral people, their lands, current issues, and tribal priorities. Please consider one of these courses and encourage others to do the same.
